I frequently visit Richmond, VA to visit family, and have stayed in many a hotel in the city. However, none have ever trumped my stay at the HI Richmond Hostel - centrally located, and one block away from my favorite bar, Penny Lane Pub - an English themed pub with plenty of soccer and Beatles memorabilia abound.
Offering private rooms starting as low as $90/night, or beds in a mixed, or male/female only dormitory pricing at $25/night, you can't go wrong with this awesome location. I stayed in a private room, which also included a private shower/bathroom (in case you're wondering why I'm so excited about this - not every hostel's private room includes this!)
In the common area they provide a fantastic board with things to do each day of the week in Richmond (this is how I learned about an Edgar Allen Poe party taking place at Richmond's Poe Museum - something cool to check out if you're in the area!).
I could literally go on and on about how freaking cool this place is, but you should just wait and see for yourself.
Big thank you to HI Richmond Hostel for showing me how neat hostels can be, and inspiring me to travel exclusively to hostels this year - be on the lookout for more hostel reviews in the coming year. Next up: KEX Hostel Reykjavik - I'll be staying here during my trip to Iceland this February, and I could not be more ready!
